One of the most time-consuming and frustrating aspects of SEO split testing is configuring and building your control and test groups so they are balanced and any anomalies are removed.
If, for example, you are running an ecommerce website, there could be thousands of URLs you want to test under the umbrella of one split test. However selecting URLs into balanced groups that are getting enough traffic to get a meaningful result can take hours.
We’ve added a tool to SEOTesting to help you configure good test and control groups.
You can access this new tool via the left menu, SEO Tests -> Create a new SEO Test -> Configure Groups, in the Split Test section.
There are three parts to the tool.
The first part of the tool allows you to put in a subfolder, and SEOTesting will give you a list of URLs it thinks you could put into the test and control groups. Any anomalies are listed below with the reason why.
The second tab helps you evaluate a test and control group you have assembled. SEOTesting will check for balance within your groups and detect anomalies.
Within the third tab, you can copy and paste a list of exact match URLs, and SEOTesting will configure a control group and a test group of URLs for you, taking all the effort out of the process.
Balanced control and test groups are vital to getting meaningful results from SEO split tests. This tool can help you build out those balanced groups and save you a ton of time from doing it manually, especially as many SEO staff are pushed for time in their day-to-day anyway!
We’ve already had some great feedback from customers who have used the tool within SEOTesting, and we cannot wait to see what you think!
